Conversations on History: The 19th Amendment and the Silent Sentinels (2)
Dr. Cynthia Newton, a Professor of Political Science at Wesley College in Dover, will join the Rehoboth Beach Museum's online program Conversations on History to talk about passage and ratification of the 19th amendment. August 18, 2020 marks the 100th anniveersary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment which extended sufferage to women.
Dr. Cynthia Newton will discuss the Silent Sentinel protests outside of the White House from 1917-1919 in advance of passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Little is widely known about the women, their nonviolent protests, and the brutal treatment they experienced just to have a voice in governance. Highlights of Delaware women involved in this fight will be featured.
